Daniel Viken, 85, of Mayville, ND, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. Daniel Odin Viken was born October 18, 1925 in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Christopher and Hulda (Fallman) Viken. In the spring of 1928, Daniel and his family moved to a farm in Primrose Township, Steele County where he attended Primrose School #1. Daniel was confirmed at Perry Lutheran Church, rural Portland, in 1939 and graduated from Portland High School in 1944. In 1954, Daniel moved to a farm in Sherbrooke Township, Steele County, where he farmed until 1997. On March 20, 1955 he married Elaine Domier at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Hatton, ND. Together they had 4 children. Daniel farmed near Hope, ND and in the winters he worked at Siouxland Meat Packing in West Fargo, ND. Daniel and Elaine moved to Mayville in 1987 and into Luther Memorial Home in December 2010. Daniel was a member of Perry Lutheran Church. He loved going to auction sales, dancing and spending time with his family and friends. Daniel is survived by his wife, Elaine; 4 children, Cindy Sorensen of Mayville, Terry (Craig) Klabo of Portland, Jody (Ron) Viseth of Mayville, and Todd (Shari) Viken of Hunter, ND; 9 grandchildren, Troy (Meredith) Sorensen, Allen Sorensen, Dale (Jackie) Kraling, Darin (Maria) Klabo, Shawn Viseth, Kristina Olson, Ben Olson, Brittany Olson, and Heather Viken; 2 great-grandchildren, Dominic Hanson and Abriania Sorensen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers, Lawrence (Lena), Clarence (Annie) and Marvin Viken. Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Perry Lutheran Church, rural Portland, ND. Visitation: 5-7 PM, Monday, February 21, 2011, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Burial: Perry Lutheran Church Cemetery, in the spring.
